founders_0004_Layer 1I purchased 4,000 tree seedlings last November.  Each seedling cost 10 shillings.  At the time, I had noticed that the hill on our property was virtually bare, and I thought it would be a good idea to cover it with trees – after all, I couldn’t imagine what else could successfully grow on it.

Going in, I knew that watering the seedlings would be a challenge if the rains did not come.  Nevertheless, Paul our shamba manager and I decided that we would try it out.

Over the months, I supervised the planting of the seedlings. Month after month Paul and I would strategize over the timing of the rains and the staff required to get all 4,000 planted.  There was no guarantee that we would be successful, but we took the chance.

Almost 1 year later, our trees have taken root and are turning into a small forest.  In life, you have to realize that you don’t always know how things will turn out, but one thing for sure, if you want a chance at success, you have to take the first step.
