I like to believe that I’m a deep thinker… not sure who else thinks so, but on a regular day, I am reflecting on what someone said, or something or read.
The funny part is my thoughts are frequently summarized by a song – not just any song – rap lyrics… I’m not sure when this began, but if you really think about it, there is a song to describe every experience of your life, and definitely one that can lift you up from sorrow.
A few years ago I left a job that I had outgrown, for that it’s, ‘listen, that’s life, deal with it, press reset, download pain, write a thesis’ by Pharaohe Monch. When I recall our family’s relentless quest to get our voices heard in Kenya’s entangled judicial system, it’s ‘No escaping this, no escaping this…no one’s ready to deal with us’, by the Beatnuts.
Thankfully our journey together has made us stronger. Thanks to Kanye West, ‘N-now th-that that don’t kill me, can only make me stronger, I need you to hurry up now, cause I can’t wait much longer.’ I’ve heard it said that where words fail, music speaks, that definitely is my take!
